The TV series Anne with an E has become popular since its inception and has won various awards in Canada, not least the Canadian Screen Award. The award is for best drama series in both 2017 and 2018.

Canadian TV series also available on Netflix

The Canadian television series Anne with an E is based on the book Anne of Green Gables. Author Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote the children’s literature back in 1908 and it has since become a classic. Moira Walley Beckett is the producer of the TV series in which Amybeth McNulty plays the character of the orphan Anne Shirley. Anne with an E had its series premiere on 19 March 2017.

In addition, people can watch the TV series worldwide on Netflix since 12 May 2017. The second season was released in August 2017 and the third season in August 2018. Despite the popularity of the TV series, the CBC and Netflix announced in 2019 that Anne with an E will not continue with more seasons.

Controversial TV series

The content of the series has become a hot topic of discussion. Although the issues have been different, many have considered them controversial. Issues such as orphanhood, child abandonment, psychological trauma, social issues and gender inequality have featured in the TV series. In addition, there have also been questions about racism, religion, homosexuality, bullying and freedom of expression.
